On November 10, 2018, the FPA Uganda High School celebrated one of its most momentous occasions since its inception in February 2015- the opening of the new Senior IV school block as well as the graduation of the Senior IV Class! On this day, 46 talented and hardworking young people were recognized for successfully completing their high school education. Their graduation ceremony was attended by families, friends, teachers, community members and honored guests.

Those in attendance included the Honorable Kayima David Sekyeru, Chairperson Chief of Buganda Kingdom, the Honorable Deputy Sebwaana, Chief of Busiro Sub-County, Mr & Mrs. Fredrick Bombo, Mr. Henery Lwanga Ssempijja, Senior Education Officer Nansana Municipal Council, Mr. Wamala. E., Inspector of Schools-Wakiso District, Dr. David Nyenje, FPA Uganda High School Doctor, Mr. David Lugya, Mrs. Nakawungu Deborah, Chairperson LCI Gobero, Mr. E. Paul West and FPA Uganda Director Carrie West. Special appreciation is given to the Honorable Dr. Prosperous Nankindu, Minister of State for Education for the Buganda Kingdom, for her visit to and support of the FPA Uganda High School and its students.

The day was one of smiles, laughter and joy, evident as the staff and students paraded into the ceremony while dancing to local, live music. Music was provided by FPA students in combination with the Nkwenga Cultural Troupe. Nkwenga Cultural Troupe has graciously partnered with FPA Uganda High School since its inception, providing musical training and instruction throughout the school years. Graduates and attendants listened to guest speakers and school staff as they honored the students on their special day. Commencement speakers included FPA Uganda Director Carrie West, Kayima Sekyeru David, school headmaster Mr. Herbert Kalumba, Deputy Sebwaana, Mr. Jackson Basse and more. Mr. George Mukasa presided over the ceremony and facilitated the events of the day. All students received special recognition of their graduation, and top academic performers and outstanding peer leaders were recognized with monetary awards. A commemorative luncheon followed the day’s events, for all in attendance!

In addition to celebrating the school’s first graduation ceremony, the day was also significant in marking the opening of the new Senior IV school block. A ribbon cutting ceremony, led by Director West and Honorable Kayima Sekyeru David, followed the graduation. This new space will be used as a full-time classroom, with the ability to sit seniors for their month-long mandatory testing required by the Wakiso Department of Education. When not in use during school hours, this block will provide a dedicated space for vocational training and community-based events and meetings. This meets a long-awaited need for a multi-purpose meeting facility in the Gobero district.

The vision of the FPA Uganda High School is to transform lives through educational excellence- this hope became reality on November 10th, as the first graduating class stepped out of high school and into their brightly lit futures. Pride radiated on the faces on the 46 graduates, and was reflected in the eyes of their families and teachers, who have supported and encouraged them along the way. We join FPA Uganda High School in offering a sincere and hearty congratulations to all the students and staff on a job well done!
